The Texas Purple Hull Pea Festival, or TXPHP Fest, is a celebration of history and culture, that includes walking tours and food, as well as contests, a kids' zone. Admission is free!
The TXPHP Fest started in 2014 to celebrate cultural traditions in agriculture and food related to the Deep East and Southeast Texas regions, more specifically the historic Texas Freedom Colony: Shankleville in Newton County.

Be Prepared!
It is hot & humid in June. Bring hats, water, personal fans, & wear light clothing. If you plan to take a tour, wear sturdy shoes. Feel free to bring umbrellas, lawn chairs & blankets to make the day comfortable. A cooling station will be available on-site.
